This week on monday we were given two questions to answer on ur own. The first question was “I empathy valuable?” while the second one was “Is being an empathetic person at odds with american values?”. At first I was really stuck on the second question, but in my essay I related it back to the american dream and how some people lose motivation to reach it. I used a personal connection to one of my family members that is going through this at this moment and I said “I have empathy towards him because I can imagine myself in his shoes and see what I would do differently but I lack empathy towards him because he doesn't seem to want to get better”. The socratic seminar was on friday, I thought that it was kind of boring because everyone agreed with one another and the topic wasn't something that people have different opinions on. That friday morning was our critique from the museum of contemporary art in san diego. I was really excited to receive critique from Louisa and Akiko because they are both well spoken and know what will catch attention from the guest that attend the chula vista zine festival. The zine cover that I created was really significant. I had a snake to represent sexual energy, which i elated back to the male gaze in the media and how that is pushed onto women. The lion represents the predators in the world. The bull represents masculinity and how that is pushed onto men. I feel like I could still work on it so that it is more clear to the audience.
