In this project each student had to pick out a social issue in America that they would like to advocate for. After presenting each one of our issue we were partnered up into groups with other students that had similar topics to our own. I was put into the feminism group after the group selection. I have developed as a teen advocate after researching about what I am advocating for. I would like more people to know that adolescents start hearing beauty standards or having body image issues because they are going through puberty. But how it can start around the age of seven years old by the people they are surrounded by. For example family and friends can be the first cause of the beauty standards that adolescents pressure onto themselves because they might think that it's the only thing that looking a certain way might be the only way they feel accepted into society. Something i’ve learned while doing research about possible mental and physical health disorders that could be developed from these beauty standards is the two most common eating disorders in america. Anorexia and Bulimia. Both of these eating disorders damages the grey matter in your brain.Having little grey matter isn't good because the purpose of grey matter is to help function the five senses which is a basic need and it ruins your mental health if you have to little. |
