INTRODUCTION
we did the model united nations project this year. Each student had to represent a country and research about their country. we were all given the same topic so we could discuss them on may third and fourth, a two day simulation of the united nations. The topic was the Syrian refugee crisis. the essential questions was "Why is the Syrian refugee crisis happening?" and "What should the rest of the world do about it?". I was chosen to represent Egypt, I was on committee two, my chairs where Aleia, Alejandro and Ashley. |
Egypt is a country linking northeast Africa with the Middle East. With a population of 94,949,686 as of March ninth, 2017. Egypts capital is Cairo which is located near the Nile Delta.
Government The politics of Egypt is based on republicanism, with a semi-presidential system of government, established following the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. The President is elected for two four-year terms and the Parliament is unicameral. The current president of Egypt is Abel Fattah El-Sisi. How Egypt is involved with the Syrian refugee crisis Egypt currently has 120,540 registered Syrian refugees. People of Egypt are looking at Syrian refugees either in a positive way or a negative way, It's impossible to say what a whole country of 94,949,686 people think of the refugees that are coming in. |
I think that the UNHCR website was the most helpful article that I could use to research about my country. I was able to find the statistics of the Syrian refugee crisis in Egypt. I found it by the links on Dr.p's dp. The interesting part of this website is all the graphs it has and how its organized.

The most I changed throughout the three drafts of my position paper was adding in more opinion because when I was addressing the whole situation. Two helpful critiques was when people would do the suggestion option ad would cross out unnecessary sentences or adding paragraphs together. I got critiques from other students that were representing Egypt for their committee groups.

Each delegate had to write an opening speech, which would be read out loud during the conference after roll call. These speeches allowed each country to say their opinion on the Syrian Refugee Crisis. I used my position paper as an outline because I was lost on where to start so I changed a lot between my position paper and my opening speech. One helpful critique that I got was from one of the students and They suggested that I greeted everyone first and let the group know Egypt's view on the crisis.
