This week was the week of the walkout to show respect to the seventeen lives that were lost to the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Our school all gathered at the front of the school, we made signs that reflected how we all felt about school shootings and how it's something that should never happen to any school. We took a lap around the school, we all walked in silence to respect the lives and families of those who passed.Later that week Some groups from our class took a field trip to the gathering grounds, where we are having our Chula Vista Zine fest on April 28th. The groups that went were Event Logistics,Hospitality and workshop. We all paired up in groups of three, one person from each group and we all were paired up with a zine artist who volunteered to go that day to help us find out how we want to set up and what the zine artist guests need in order to be comfortable. The zine artist that I met with was named Alejandra, She was really nice to talk to and showed my group a bunch of different zones, both made from her and some from artists she bought/traded from. Alani, Cayla and I had a really good time interviewing her and asking why she does zines and asking about some of her experiences in participating in zine fests whether they were good or bad experiences.

This week was avery eventful week because we had so much project work time that was good for everyone to get ahead of the milestone due dates that are assigned to us. My group found out that we were going to be the first group that the museum of contemporary art were going to critique. I get nervous each time because I don't know what Akiko and Louisa are going to say about our cover. Before the critique, I suggested to my group that we should put in little interests of each page that would have each of our essay so that it doesn't distract the person that is reading the zine form the pictures, they really liked the idea and it's something that was praised in our critique which i was very happy about. I think that our mock zine turned out very nice because everyone that is in our group was in the zine production group from last semester project, where we had to format all the pages together, which is why it was more simple for everyone to understand. On the same day we had the women's march and I thought that it was really empowering to see all of the students and teachers participating to celebrate how amazing women are and fight for women's rights. I do wish that I could have heard more male voice or some more female student voices give speeches, but each and every person that participated gave me more courage to not be afraid to voice my opinion. This week we visited UCSD to learn about what it is like in a real laboratory. In Dr.Sasha Kauffman’s lab we were able to take a tour and experience soe if the work they do their. Learning about neuroscience was really interesting and I think that it was easier to understand because we heard it from younger college students and they used language that made it easier for us, for example, they said that we should look for the “Eyebrows” of the brain and how it slowly forms into a “unibrow” while taking samples of mice brains. Another thing that I enjoyed at UCSD was the campus. The alumni that we met used to attend to HTHCV and without meeting them and knowing that they’re one step ahead of me and have experienced all the stress that I might face in a few years. It was reassuring that even though I might not have good math skills all the communication skills will not go to waste when we have to socialize with the people around us either in a friendly way or a professional manner. This week we also looked at what kind of art stencil art is and I found it really cool because i'm used to the traditional acrylic painting and pencil drawing. Although it might be difficult to make the background collage because I get really picky when it comes to things like collages. I tend to make things that don't have text because I find it distracting from the visuals in the college and i’ve also noticed that when we do make magazine collages I always have either a color theme that looks bright but dark. I'm excited but nervous to see what it will look like on a canvas because I am trying to push myself to use the primary colors this time around. |
